The Folksam Group achieves its goal of SEK 25 billion in green bonds

With an investment of SEK 600 million in a green bond issued by the World Bank, the Folksam Group has now attained the goal of owning more than SEK 25 billion in green bonds before the end of 2018. This is an important step in the Folksam Group’s sustainability efforts, and it consolidates the group’s position as a global leader within green bonds. These bonds now comprise six per cent of the managed assets.

“When we established the target of 25 billion just over two years ago, it was to prove to ourselves as well as to the financial market that we were serious about this shift. Investing in green bonds and other bonds issued by borrowers who prioritise sustainability issues is an important part of our DNA. It’s been an amazing journey so far. We have formed strong ties with several important stakeholders, not least the World Bank, where we are now involved in financing a great number of projects that ultimately aim to end poverty in the world and create shared wealth,” says Jens Henriksson, President and CEO of the Folksam Group, during a seminar in conjunction with the annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF.

“At the same time, we have continued to build on our good business relationships with the Swedish municipalities, and we are proud to be part of the efforts being made to build a sustainable society. Since we set our goal, the market for green bonds and what is often referred to as sustainable bonds has seen massive growth, and we are pleased to say that we contributed. We are in this market to stay, and we feel very excited and enthusiastic about what is coming next,” says Jens Henriksson in closing.

Green bonds are a way for the Folksam Group to direct its investments towards projects that contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which is in line with the Folksam Group’s vision for our customers to feel secure in a sustainable world.
